Job Summary

The System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation and configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. Participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. Ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and Partners.


Duties & Responsibilities

•Maintains operational, configuration, or other procedures as expected of a System Administrator
•Prepares users by designing and conducting training programs and providing references and support
•Installs or upgrades systems by conferring with vendors and services; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software
•Researches and recommends innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identifies approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
•Installs, troubleshoots, configures and maintains desktop and server software and hardware, phones and phone systems, and network equipment
•Provides Tier I-III and other support per request from various constituencies when required. Investigates and troubleshoot issues
• Repairs and recovers from hardware or software failures
•Coordinates and communicates with impacted constituencies
•Provides desktop, phone and remote support to all staff members; assists in Helpdesk related tasks
•Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•Willingness and desire to learn and develop new techniques and skills
•Strong knowledge of all Windows Server Operating Systems including Server 2012
•Strong knowledge of all Windows Server Roles
•Strong knowledge of Hyper-V 2008 and 2012
•Strong knowledge of SAN environments (Dell EqualLogic preferred)
•Professional knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
•Professional knowledge of all network hardware such as switches, routers, and firewalls
•Professional knowledge of Microsoft Exchange
•Professional knowledge of Microsoft SQL, MySQL, or other Databases
•Professional knowledge of backup software such as Symantec Backup Exec
•Professional knowledge of VOIP (Avaya preferred)
•Professional knowledge of helpdesk ticketing systems
•Working knowledge of scripting, including Windows PowerShell



•High School Diploma or GED required
•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
•3+ years of experience
